Racha Islands Tour2018-10-24T14:09:46+00:00

Enjoy the intimate character of a lovely getaway on the Racha Islands just 20 km from Phuket

Situated in the South of Phuket, Racha Islands (or Raya) are composed by Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi. The names given to the Thailand’s islands often use the adjectives Yai and Noi which respectively express the notion of size, great or large for Yai and small for Noi. The term Racha or Raya means King. Koh Racha Yai can thus be translated by the great island of the King and Koh Racha Noi by the small island of the King.

Koh Rachai Yai is about 3200 meters long for a width of a little more than 2800 meters. Bordered by turquoise waters the island has several white sandy beaches and the bays shielded from the wind faciliting the practice of the snorkeling all year long. The Batok’s bay in the northwest and the Konkare’s bay in the northeast allow to access on the island to enjoy the luxurious and lovely beaches. The island of Racha Yai is covered with many coconut plantations for the delight of holidaymakers who feast on the fresh coconut.

The second island, Koh Racha Noi, is wilder and is situated a little bit further south of Koh Rachai Yai. This is the last point of land before the open sea. Koh Racha Noi is a long thin strip of granite rock covered with forest. Koh Rachai Noi is uninhabited excepted by nanny-goats and some species of reptiles which appropriated the places of this outstanding site. The island has a small white sand beach and draws on the sea as a long strip of land covered with plentiful vegetation. The site presents the best underwater visibility in the region. The island is rarely visited by other tourist boats.

The coral reefs around both islands are inhabited by many families of molluscs such as the giant clams, the nudibranchs, many small crustaceans and fish species mixing the rainbow’s colours as the parrotfishes, the clownfishes and the damselfishes.
