Immortalized by the blockbuster movie filmed in 1999 “The Beach”, Phi Phi Islands are mysterious and unique in the world enchanting place. For divers, the best dive sites are the two pinnacles Bida Nai and Bida Nok offshore islands of Phi-Phi Ley and Phi-Phi Don.
Diving on Phi Phi Islands are like diving within an aquarium where tropical reef fishes light your eyes. The overhangs offer the interplay of light and colours between the reef and the deep blue sea. The colony of hard coral tables, the dazzling clouds of glassfish, the gorgonians and the others soft coral uncover their treasures for the aware divers. Between the main reef and the small boulders you probably meet harmless shark species, the famous leopard shark and small black tip reef sharks.
Around the sloping reefs and the fantastic walls the fish residents with giving life to the coral gardens took up residence. These sites offer a bit of everything in term of marine life with the hawksbill turtles, angel fish, moray eels, stingrays, lionfish between sea fans, some seahorse and nudibranch species, barracudas schools, wahoos and giant trevallies, butterflyfishes, damselfishes, clownsfishes, ghostpipefishes, bannerfishes, groupers, octopus and jackfishes. The followers of macro photographers can be delighted with the presence of seahorses, ghost pipefishes and several nudibranchs. This list remains to complete after every dive! Sometimes happens that whale sharks join divers during their underwater explorations.
Both sites provide opportunities to make great dives for experienced divers and for those who are less.
